Who are we?
SHINY ENTERTAINMENT is a Melbourne based music company dedicated to providing publicity, marketing, consultancy and promotions solutions to a diverse range of artists, labels and events.
In our more positive moments we like to believe that artistic freedom and commercial savvy can co-exist. Om!
Founded at the end of a particularly long and winding 2004 Shiny once incorporated a wonderful record label until we pinched ourselves and woke up. In a previous life there was an illustrious past, but that’s all ancient history so who cares, right? Right!
We like to think that we provide a love-me-tender type consideration and assistance to artists and labels in developing a publicity, promotion and marketing plan to suit their releases, tours or events.
Shiny’s current clients include a shit-hot bunch of today’s top bananas including BRITISH INDIA, The PYRAMID ROCK and NO SLEEP TIL music festivals; CALLING ALL CARS; exciting up and comers OWL EYES and BOY IN A BOX; & various others as featured on our Clients page.
As in life, so in work – we don’t discriminate.
Meet the team
Steven Stavrakis (Gemini)
It’s all ancient history now, but for the record Stav had the pleasure of working at Phantom Records, started the seminal Sydney based Waterfront label and retail store, and then came up with the indie label that dreams were made of, Fellaheen. After a short stint as a kitchenhand/waiter par excellence, an equally short time at Modular/Virgin (never did like the glamourous life) he literally kick started the life out of In-Fidelity, and by then it was suddenly all about 2004 and Shiny Entertainment… kinda like Fellaheen all over again. Well, that’s the idea anyway.
Jimmy Bollard (Capricorn)
Jimmy lived in Adelaide his whole life (minus a brief stint in the UK and a trip around Europe) before expanding his Shiny psyche and making the move to Melbourne. He is more brain than brawn – with enough smarts to have become a cashed up clinical psychologist, and enough smarts to instead opt for the glamourous and ‘high-paying’ world of street press journalism. Jimmy earned his stripes through a long relationship with Adelaide’s Rip It Up, working through the ranks from journalist to Online Editor. Frustrated by the lack of international pop stars in his life, he decided to try and become one himself in a “half-arsed attempt at DJ’ing” (inverted commas deliberate). Outside of the glitz, the rest of Jimmy’s life has involved bar jobs, missed lectures and Seinfeld re-runs. The Shiny team agree with the Montara Winery and think that “Jimmy’s perfect with a nice piece of lamb cutlet or even just on his own”.
Tiana Morrison (Leo)
Tiana hails from Canberra. She doesn’t really like to talk about it, so don’t ask. She moved to Melbourne because she had no other aspirations other than music and luckily, after two years of steady unemployment – a.k.a, running her own music business, Shiny took her in. Don’t tell Stav, but she was slightly disappointed that the Shiny office isn’t covered in glitter. Tiana changes her hairstyle as often as she changes her underwear… It’s all got to do with her ninja warrior-spy past. She has a major weakness for intelligent rock music, bad puns and dad jokes.
Mia S. Besorio (Sagittarius)
Mia has long been branded with the alias “Spurs” due to her fascination with Spaghetti Western’s. A love of punk, kraut rock and a closet admiration for hip hop drives this over enthused, abuser of pop culture references. Using “eclecticism” as an excuse for her clashing of patterns and colours, a solid dependency on caffeinated beverages, constant nonsensical ramblings about “sweating” and an avid appreciation for large hats are a way of life for this retiree trapped in a young, unproportionate girls body.
