Starting today, Australia’s largest national youth radio network…that’s you triple j….has bestowed this week’s jjj Feature Album to none other than CAC’s “Dancing With A Dead Man”!!

“Dancing With A Dead Man” was released last Friday 5 August; their national album launch tour starts this Thursday 11 August in sunny Traralgon; they were front cover stars for local Adelaide street press dB last week; front and centre for hometown rag Inpress;  and repeat the script this week in Perth when they will grace the front cover of The Wire.

Joining Calling All Cars on the road will be two of the country’s most promising up-and-comers. Zeitgeist punk rockers BOY IN A BOX, currently riding high on the back of their triple j powered hot single ‘Glitter, Gold, Ruin’ and head wagging noise-niks REDCOATS will be warming up the crowds on this lengthy national tour, promising it to be one of the loudest and sweatiest for the year.

Produced by Tom Larkin from Shihad, Calling All Cars are creating a monster of a second album. Some taut and twisted sounds are emanating from the studio as the band put the final touches on the follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut Hold, Hold, Fire.

Did i mention that CAC are the Australia’s most rock trio? POh yeah, i did…never mind…some things are good to be reminded of…go get ‘em!

It’s certainly good enough for fellow Perth natives THE PANICS, who have asked Split Seconds to join them on the road as they launch their brand new single ‘Majesty’ around the country this July. Split Seconds’ WAMi win is just the latest feather in a cap quickly resembling an Indian headdress. Numerous festival dates (Big Day Out, Laneway, Southbound), a highly favoured triple j single (‘Bed Down’) and support slots for some big names (Sufjan Stevens, Tim Minchin) over the summer
have set the stage nicely for these indie popsters to achieve some very big things.

And following their glorious summer it looks like Split Seconds will continue to make hay while the sun doesn’t shine. Hot on the heels of ‘Bed Down’ is new single ‘All You Gotta Do’, a track whose jangly guitar line and incessant piano thwacks will further ingratiate them to those in the know.

I first came across Bob Gould when he owned a couple of stores on Oxford Street Darlinghjurst – Third World Books.

Third World was the first place i bought a bootleg record; it was the first place i bought a copy of Rolling Stone (when it mattered and was good); it was the first place i discovered that the Black Panthers were more than a Marvel comic character; the first place i saw an image of Che Guevara; the first place i discoverd “cut outs” US deleted albums; the first place i bought subversive literature; the first place i bought a Jack Kerouac novel; the place i’d always go to when i discovered a counter culture hero that i needed to find out more about; the first place i bought a City Lights book; the first place i discovered Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, Eldrige Cleaver…

I owe Bob Gould, i always will! So too for that matter do thousands of other kids like me at the time.
