Declan Melia is a man of many talents, however his recent addition to the list of credentials is what could be summarised simply with a reference to Avril Lavigne’s 2002 song ‘Sk8er Boi’. “Now he’s a superstar, slammin’ on his guitar” was a fitting lyric, until recently when an on board accident caused injuries to both wrist and fingers seeing Declan unfit to handle a guitar on their current ‘She prefers older Men’ tour.

Manager Glenn Goldsmith was in merry spirits despite the ordeal, saying “Declan is still able to sing and he can’t really play the guitar anyway”. Replacing him on shredding duties will be Nipuna from Neon Love, with supports from Betty Airs, The Frowning Clouds and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. To coincide with the tour, British India will have a free ‘fans only’ download on their website for a limited time. THE UNTOLD STORY OF BRITISH INDIA AND WOLF PARTY

We all know British India – the garage rock band responsible for hits like Tie Up My Hands, I Said I’m Sorry and March Into The Ocean – but what about their long lost friends Wolf Party? Until recently, the story of this gifted young duo has gone untold. That was until they were discovered by the folks at Poncho, who joined both bands on their brief east coast tour earlier this year. The end result is the greatest rockumentary since Dig and can be streamed here.

British India wrap up their ‘March Into The Ocean’ tour with three shows in WA this weekend, followed by a double-header at Hobart’s Republic Bar on Fri Jun 3 and Sat Jun 4. Wolf Party will not be supporting the band on these dates.

Well kiddies this is my final ever contribution to the Shiny site! Rather than conclude with anecdotes of entertaining moments, a list of highlights or even heartfelt tales of my time at Shiny (believe me I could come up with long long long long long list) I will leave you with the latest on the road clip from my favourite band boys!

It has been an absolute pleasure and I will miss all my bands and the Shiny staff immensely

Triple threat? You bet!

As previously mentioned, the Shiny triple threat of British India, City Riots and Boy in a Box played their first inner city leg of the ‘March into the Ocean’ tour last Saturday at The Corner Hotel.

A sell out hometown audience awaited the Shiny Family, thus restoring my faith in the potential for equal amounts positivity at this years Christmas dinner table! Entree act City Riots got the appetites ready, followed by a hearty taste of Boy in a Box covering the classic Bobby Fuller Four track ‘I fought the law’ (also previously having been covered by The Clash, whose lead singer Joe Strummer bears an uncanny resemblance to Tobias Priddle!). The sundae with a luscious maraschino cherry on top however was headliners British India, who also dabbled in nostalgia through their perfectly executed cover of The Offspring’s ‘Self Esteem’ .

It is not often that you get the chance to witness 3 talented Shiny acts on one bill, so do yourself a well deserved favour and get down to one of the upcoming shows. Check out the tour dates HERE.
