News is: Pavement’s first Sydney show at The Enmore on Thursday 4th March are completely sold out. Good news is: tickets are still available to their second show at The Enmore on Friday 5th March but they’re selling like hotcakes (i don’t actually know what hotcakes are – grew up on Viet food) so you better get in quickly!! Tickets to both shows are on sale now.

Pavement dropped out of the scene ten years ago after releasing a string of genre defining tunes (‘Crooked Rain’, ‘Slanted and Enchanted’, ‘Wowee Zowee’ and ‘Brighten the Corners’). Since then Pavement’s largesse has continued to grow and they now stand proudly on the Dais of Indie Rock Immortality.

Tickets to Pavement’s Sydney show at The Enmore on Thursday 4 March are on the verge of selling out, and after having only been on sale for a few hours tickets to their Melbourne show at The Palace on Friday 12 March have completely sold out.

And guess what? They’re coming back Down Under as part of their 2010 world tour!

Band mates Stephen Malkmus, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, Mark Ibold, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West will play at select cities around Australia and at Golden Plains music festival in Victoria.

For those of you who were hoping the band would permanently reunite, sorry to disappoint you but their label Matador Records have emphasised that the band have no plans for further touring and recording.

The band will be kicking things off in Sydney, followed by shows in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and wrapping up their Australian tour in Melbourne. Tickets are on sale at 9:00amon Friday October 23, 2009.

A greatest hits album will also be released to coincide with the tour.

It’s been ten years since Pavement left the music scene. Since their split in 1999 the band are still as popular as they used to be and this tour is a live celebration of the band that has transformed the indie music scene with their raw and lo-fi recordings.
