Pyramid Rock second line-up

Ee gads! New Year’s Eve is only just around the corner! So as you’re tapping away on your computer dreaming of all the sunny days ahead, we’ve got something to brighten up your lives just that little bit more – the second line-up of acts to join the Pyramid Rock Festival bill.

Joining the likes of the already announced SCISSOR SISTERS, THE LIVING END, GOTYE and GRANDMASTER FLASH will be French electro whiz YUKSEK (pictured), comeback kids THE GETAWAY PLAN, Sydney popsters SPARKADIA, as well as a whole heap of other amazing acts.

And while we’re on the topic of new acts to the bill, let us all welcome gritty Melbourne outfit THE DELTA RIGGS, who join us by way of triple j Unearthed. The pleasure is ours, lads.

Are you ready to rock this New Year’s season? Because we here sure as hell are! That’s right, from Thursday December 29 to Sunday January 1 Victoria’s beautiful Phillip Island will once again be overrun with more than 50 of your favourite international rock stars and home-grown heroes to provide the best New Year’s party atmosphere around at the PYRAMID ROCK FESTIVAL. After an amazing year in 2010, we’ve got just the line-up – including SCISSOR SISTERS, GOTYE and GRANDMASTER FLASH – to make 2011 even better.

Tickets for this year’s Pyramid Rock Festival go on sale Wed Sep 14 at 9am sharp! As per usual, punters have the option of buying 2- or 3-day tickets. Word to the wise though – those with 3-day passes will be treated to a very special RocKwiz Live performance on Thu Dec 29. Those with 2-day passes will still get to catch all the bands on the bill, but won’t be able to enter the grounds until Fri Dec 30.

Who says there’s no prize for Second?

Who would you say is the most heralded band in Western Australia? Eskimo Joe? Birds Of Tokyo? Tame Impala? Wrong, wrong and wrong. In 2011 the answer would have to be our very own Shiny boys Split Seconds, who topped the winner’s list at the annual WAMi Awards with no less than five gongs to their name. The Perth-based group took home the the publicy-voted FAVOURITE NEWCOMER award, as well as the industry-voted accolades for MOST PROMISING NEW ACT and BEST INDIE POP ACT. On top of this, frontman Sean Pollard was announced as BEST MALE VOCALIST and drummer Todd Pickett was proclaimed the BEST DRUMMER in the land.

And while we’re on the topic, a big, fat congratulations also goes out to Boom! Bap! Pow!, who took home the WAMi for BEST FUNK ACT. The WAMi’s have never looked so Shiny!

D.A.R.E to resist Tom Ugly & Crazy Charlie

With a model and a pornstar keeping his home life busy, it seems that ‘love’ is the drug indeed for Charlie Sheen. More popular today than he ever was as a Young Gun, I wonder what his mighty (duck) brother Emilio Estevez thinks about this newfound fame, having once been quoted - “I’ve never been a guy that went out there to get publicity on myself. I never saw the value in it.”

In honour of the Two and a half Men star, Tom Ugly has whipped up a dangerously addictive concoction of synthesizers and Charlie Sheen samples. You won’t be finding Charlie any purer than this:

The Amity Affliction Youngbloods Tour

Last week we promised a big announcement regarding Brisbane punk/hardcore/metal heroes
THE AMITY AFFLICTION, and this week we’re delivering in spades!

Strap yourselves in kids ’cause The Amity Affliction are all set to embark on a large scale national tour in July to launch their new album Youngbloods, and it’s gonna be a wild ride!

The Youngbloods Tour will incorporate a series of shows that remain true to The Amity Affliction’s punk rock ethos and will be a mix of all age, under 18 and over 18 shows through capital cities and select major regionals.

Want more? This ain’t no ordinary tour! To help them party hard The Amity Affliction has roped in a United Nations of Punk and Hardcore bands to help and will be ably supported at all shows by Misery Signals (USA), popular Melbourne moshlords Confession, and Flood of Red (UK).

The tour will be Misery Signals first Australian tour since their sold out headline run in 2009 (when they were supported by The Amity Affliction), and will be Flood of Red’s first ever Australian run (which coincides with the June release of their debut album Leaving Everything Behind on Boomtown Records.
