With the lazy crack of a Motown snare, Perth doo-wop soul 5 piece Boom! Bap! Pow! introduce the soundtrack to a timeless tale of woe. ‘No Pleasin’ is the new single taken from the ‘No Pleasin’ EP and never has heartbreak sounded so damn good!
As Western Australia’s weapon of choice when it comes to getting the party started, this hip-shakin’ combo have been igniting dance floors state wide since the release of their debut album “You Got It So Bad For Boom! Bap! Pow!” in 2009. Their blockbuster live show features the larynx shredding one minute; sweet as sugar the next vocals of Novac Bull as well as live sax and explosive call and response dynamics. It has landed them on stages with soul legends such as The Temptations, The Four Tops and The Miracles. Impressive company indeed, but company with which Boom! Bap! Pow! can be very comfortable. As one of a new worldwide wave of soul bands who combine the classics of yore with the sheen of today, they follow in the footsteps of the likes of Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and Amy Winehouse to form a unique force in Australian music today.
No Pleasin’ is the latest crowd pleaser taken from Boom! Bap! Pow!’s second record. The first single, Science, saw the band move from sweaty inner city venues to festival stages earning them spots on both One Movement and Southbound as well as rave reviews all over the country. No Pleasin’ promises to take this WAMI nominated combo one step further and to a national audience with a tour supporting Royal Crown Revue scheduled for January 2011.
Opting to slink on in next to your heart this time (as opposed to leaping into it in a single bound) No Pleasin’ is the sound of a band at the peak of their powers. This classic tale of heartbreak and frustration is given the full Boom! Bap! Pow! treatment, caressing the listener with a dirty Motown beat and a vocal take that wouldn’t melt in your mouth, before knocking it out of the park with the addictive refrain – “if there’s just no pleasin’ you, give me the reason”… It’s just one in a long line of killer tracks to come hurtling from the Boom! Bap! Pow! production line which steadily moves the band closer and closer to complete domination of the dance floors of the state, the country and some day the world!
