Queens of the support slot

Calling All Cars could fill a gumball machine with the number of high profile supports they have chewed through, and their latest achievement is nothing short of jaw dropping.  Sharing the stage with Queens of the Stone Age on their only shows outside of the Soundwave festival, Calling All Cars will be packing a punch to both Melbourne and Sydney Sidewavers!

After the delayed, yet oh so delectable, release of their ironically titled album “Hold, Hold Fire”, the trio have been writing fresh tunes with the intention of  heading back into the studios watering hole, to wet their lips and bust out some more thirst quenching tracks for their follow up album due later this year.

Make sure you whip out some leather and get down to see Calling All Cars support Queens of the Stone Age on Wednesday 2 March at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney and Thursday 3 March at The Palace in Melbourne!

£GBI (Great British India)

The longevity of likely lads British India is probably as sustainable as the GBP itself. Their four pronged perseverance stands and delivers once again with a brand new single “March into the Ocean”.

Worth investing your pennies in, British India are a band that are looking to have a much longer shelf life than those wedge heeled desert boots that silly sales lady told you would be the next big thing since Coco Chanel.

On the note of currency (or lack thereof) the generous boys from British India along with Triple J are offering a FREE download of the single for a limited time! Yes, that is correct Sir – FREE, so make like a bunny and hop to it!

To place a far from virginal cherry on top, British India will be doing what they do best, and embarking on a 3 month long national tour, beginning on the 24th of March in support of their latest release, before marching straight back onto a plane to take on the USA, UK, Europe and Japan later this year.

Two new Shiners worth salivating over!

No – we’re not talking about black eyes , although these two Shiners are worthy of shaking a stick at in aggravated excitement! All for bribery, it seems those extra milk and cookies worked a treat on old Saint Nick, who very generously planted two promising acts underneath the Shiny Christmas tree last December. Our glittering Cheshire grins continued right through the New Year, at the exciting deliverance of Melbourne’s Boy in a Box, and Sydney’s Strangers.

Boy in a Box fulfils all of the nostalgia of their ogling and apathetic nemesis, Jack – minus the anticipation-induced anxiety. Replace torment with enjoyment, and you have their be-bopping track “Moon Comes Up”, which you are sure to have heard on one of its many spins on the Triple J airwaves. With an up tempo b-b-bounce and a bada-bing chorus that contemporises the charisma of the Golden Years, it is a combination that would even get Tony Soprano tapping his feet. Slicker than a switchblade comb and with a debut EP in the works, there is big news ahead for this debonair delight. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you… beware it bites!

Strangers are a five part rock & roll outfit who tick all of the riff rambling boxes. Far removed from the sweat soaked baby snatchers your mother warned you about, these fellows are the teen dream equivalent of parental woes. With their debut single “Red Brick” on the brink of release and a string of supports dangling in the air like a candy filled piñata, Strangers wont be strangers for long!

At Shiny, we are so excited by Boy in a Box and Strangers,  that we have been shouting their praises around our headquarters like a pre-pubescent boy in a LAN café. So get those moist palms ready and grasp them both by the coat tails, we foresee plenty of success for these two vibrant young bands.

Help save the puppies and kittens!!

Hey Shiny folk!

I’m sure you are all well aware of the insane floods that have devastated QLD recently. While everyone is doing their best to help out the people of Queensland we also need to remember to lend a helping hand (or paw) to the four-legged furry folk in the sunshine state.

Brisbane Electro-dance punks re:enactment are leading the crusade and have released a demo from their upcoming album that you can purchase online, with all funds raised going to help rebuild their local flooded RSPCA headquarters.

The RSPCA in QLD was severely damaged by the recent floods, and while they managed to evacuate all the animals from their kennels, catteries and farm yard, they now need your help to clean up and re-build the shelter so that they can continue to help homeless critters. Unfortunately the RSPCA is exempt from flood relief funds so they are completely reliant on your generosity.

So click HERE and donate what you can to help the doggies and kitties of QLD, not only will you get the warm fuzzy feeling of doing something good but you will also get the brand new re:enactment track Scraps. Winner Winner!

Come see Owl Eyes

Super sweet 19 year old Owl Eyes will be launching her debut (or De-butt if you’re speaking to Jessica Mauboy, come on there had to be an ARARIA joke in there somewhere- that’s 2 Boom!) EP Faces tonight at the Workers Club in Fitzroy.

Owl Eyes is unbelievably talented and we think she is going to be big in 2011. Don’t miss out on coming to see her, if only to say you got to see her in this intimate setting before she was well known. Trust me the band wagon jumpers will be so envious!!

If you’re a Sydney-sider (we’ll try not to hold it against you too much- Stav used to live there til he saw the light -read over cast grey skies) make sure you check out Owl Eyes next Friday, 19th of November, at Melt in Kings Cross.

Go for the sweet tunes and to look cool, leave with a crush on Owl Eyes and a copy of her amazing Faces EP!
